IRFU Charitable Trust Golf Outing June 2021
The IRFU Charitable Trust is an incredibly important charity that supports severely injured rugby players across Ireland. The Charitable Trust exists to inspire true rugby spirit, by championing care and empowering Irish former rugby players to live life to their fullest after life-altering injuries.
Founded in 1978, the IRFU Charitable Trust has worked tirelessly to assist the currently 36 seriously injured players registered in their everyday lives, most of whom are wheelchair bound and have some form of permanent paralysis.
The Golf Outing may have been postponed last year due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but on Friday June 18th, 2021, the IRFU Charitable Trust was able to run their annual fundraiser event. Held at the stunning Powerscourt Golf Club, Enniskerry, the Golf Outing was a sold-out success, attended by a number of the charity’s corporate patrons including Lead Sponsor Pinergy, as well as Vodafone, Aon and Get Broadcasting to name a few.
Ireland, Leinster, British & Irish Lions former rugby player and IRFU Charitable Trust Ambassador Luke Fitzgerald was also in attendance, bringing his school friends as part of his golf team.
“The Charitable Trust is important because it performs a really great function for lots of people who’ve been really unfortunate with different injuries,” says Fitzgerald of the charity. “The impact [injury] has on their lives, on their loved ones’ lives. It’s very important that as a rugby community, we get behind those people. And people know that if they play rugby, there is a community there [within the Charitable Trust] that will support them if things go wrong.”
We captured the atmosphere from the Golf Outing, whilst the teams were teeing off at various holes around the course.
